I do both. I mean if you are a stay at home mom you need something to unwind to. You'll get crazy and burn out if you don't have any outlet in your life. Plus of course, the extra cash always makes it fun.
There are a lot of those websites that you can actually get paid for blogging by reviewing their advertisers or you can create buzz for the advertiser. I mean it's not bad, it's actually good. You'll just have to make sure that you are always up to date with general information. In this way you can write good reviews or bad reviews about the advertiser. But usually they are looking for something positive.
One of the website that I found is Smorty. It is a blog advertising network that would actually pay you to write your opinions about their advertisers. It's not to bad to get approved, you just have to make sure that your blog has good content when it comes to articles and good index on search engine of course.
Once your blog is approved, opportunities are sent to your admin area and you can choose to accept it if it relates to your blog and you'll get paid through paypal.
So all of you mommies who were wanting extra cash while you're doing your stuff, try Smorty.

getting a good search index for smorty means that when you type the title of your blog it would show that you are being linked to not just one blog or site.
They wanted to make sure that their when you do review for them, people online would actually find your blog by just typing certain keywords... like with mine.. if you type canofthoughts, it will show you all the sites that I have linked to... or some of it anyway...
I said some because there are those blogs that when they add new stuff on their site, they don't "ping" it. It's just a simple term which means that they dont let the world wide web know that they have updated their blog..
You can register your blog to goggle, yahoo or other search engine by adding your url... this will make your blog known to the serach engine. That's one way of increasing your search index.
And there are some other stuff that you can do like making sure that you are using meta tag which is related to your blog.
