10 Things About Us

Cathy tagged me on this one. Here are some random facts about us...

Rules:
1. Each blogger starts with 10 random facts/habits about themselves.
2. Bloggers that are tagged need to write on their own blog about their 10 things and post these rules.
3. At the end of your blog, you need to choose 10 people to get tagged and list their breads.
4. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they're tagged and to read your blog.

About us:
1. Byron, my husband, is the oldest of the 2 and I am the youngest of the 5. My oldest sister is married to the youngest. So we are the opposite.
2. He used to be in the army and his dad was a captain back home.
3. He does not like to wear sandals, flip flops/slippers, anything open toes (Hey Cathy.. this is Byron too. Can't make him wear any of those)
4. Me and my husband were dating only for 2 months when we decided to get married. Fast, fast, fast. But we waited almost 2 years before having a baby. Got to make sure that we are really into each other. :)
5. Back when I was in college, I was the president of one community organization and it allows me to visit different places in the Philippines.
6. I have to ask the parents of my members for permission every time we have a community activity. That was hard.
7. We are all female as far as my siblings is concerned.
8. I was always on the Dean's List when I was in college until my 4th year, that's when I messed up.
9. We are totally the opposite of each other. :)
10. Although we are opposite, we love to watch movies.

I have been tagging a lot of my fellow bloggers on my list so this time, feel free to grab this if you want to try it. :)

Do you like ice cream? Would you like to win $30,000 in prizes?

Everybody loves ice cream. I don't know anybody who doesn't love ice cream. Even my 20 months old daughter loves ice cream. She and her daddy both loves vanilla. I like mine something a little bit different. Something with strawberry on it or maybe double dutch ice cream, I love cookies and cream also.

Imixamerica

If you can make ice cream that's even better because Cold Stone Creamery is having an Awesome Cold Stone Contest for ages 13-19 years old to create their own signature style of ice cream. If you think that you can create your own signature taste for ice cream and would be able to have your friend buy it, then you can certainly join in.

To join the contest, make sure that you use the ingredients found at Cold Stone Creamery. Give it a name and let your friends and family try it. And of course in order to win, you have to tell your friends to vote for your entry online. The more vote, the more chance of winning.

So girls, head out to the kitchen and grab your apron and start mixing your ice cream. Don't forget to let your family and friends have a taste of it.

Daddy's Girl

My daughter woke up today while I was on the media room trying to do a little browsing around the Internet and guess who she called? Not me! She called her daddy when she woke up. She has been calling her daddy for a while now every time she wakes up in the morning. I think the reason is that for the past week daddy is the one putting her to sleep. But not last night, I have to get her from the room because it was already 12midnight and she was still tossing and turning. So I ended up rocking her while she listens to her song.

After she had her morning milk she went outside the media room looking at every inch of the house and she was calling her dad. She even went to the doorway and was trying to open it.

Oh well, I guess we have a daddy's girl.

"Black Friday" shopping, did you do it?

Thanksgiving is one of the major celebration here in the US. It is more like Christmas celebration because people would be shopping a lot, I mean a lot the day after Thanksgiving. The term black Friday is what they call it. Now when I was new here, I don't really know what it means until my husband told me that, it's the day after Thanksgiving. And usually people shop because the stores are giving huge discounts for the products that they are selling. It is the time to buy presents for Christmas and New Year, in advance. However, since store's are giving huge discounts it would really be difficult to do the shopping because the mall will be pack and it's just exhausting. There are even some stores that opens really early and give early birds special and people are really lining up just to get those "specials."

So I found this website called "Black Friday" and basically you can shop online with black Friday items from known stores like Best Buy, Babies R Us, JC Penney, Tommy Hilfiger, Old Navy, Linen's N Things and a whole lot more. The website also offers e-mail alerts to let the consumer's know that new products has been added and can now be purchase at a Black Friday price. So it is more than likely that you are going to do your shopping a little early. You don't have to wait in line and be exhausted walking from store to store looking for that bargain. All you have to do is log in online and start searching for items on their website.

Learning ABC's at 20 months old

We were outside today (me and my daughter) and we were playing ABC's this afternoon and she almost can tell all the letters in the alphabet. There's probably around 6-7 letters that she can't remember like Z, X, Q... mostly the hard ones. But I was impressed because we are not really sitting down with her and teaching her the letters. What we do is played with her blocks with ABC's I am letting her watch this TV show (KERA) which basically has letters and spellings so I am guessing she is picking up most of the letters from the show.

I was just amazed by how fast can kids learn these days. If you really take time to sit down and teach them I am sure the possibility of learning are endless.

So maybe here in a couple of months before she turns 2, she will be able to say the alphabet. ;)

I want to win an iPod

Would you like to win an iPod? I do!!! If you word on health care industries and would like to have a chance to get an iPod, all you have to do is fill out a short survey and you will automatically be entered to win the iPod. Designer Lamps

I have been wanting to change the set of lamps and lamp shades that we have in the living room. It's really old and not even mine. Not mine in a way that my husband had it before we got married.

What I want to do is get a new one and just use the one that we have on our bedroom until I can get another one for the bedroom. Sounds like I really wanted to get rid of it.

I was browsing around last night and I also some pretty floor lamps that we badly need in our dining area. We have a chandelier right now but I haven't had the chance to get some shades for it and when it's on it's really bright. I want something dimmer like maybe a torchieres.

I don't know but I just love the ambient of the room specially when it's a little dimmer. And we are the total opposite of my husband. He would always say that he cannot see with the lights dimmed. Oh well, maybe in the near future I will be able to get us a new set of lamps.

Do you need labels?

I have been seeing those beautiful labels like the one for wines, food and just about anything that we see has labels. And it's making me wonder how long does it take for a certain company to do and designs those labels. Must be a lot of work. I mean with designer a blog layout is already a lot of work and that's just one layout what else if there's more. But I read that companies that manufacture this uses Digital Printing to print out everything.

And usually produce different labels for several different products so using the Digital Printing is really needed. And I am sure they made those labels for wide scale basis, large businesses like wineries and food companies.

Maybe I will have a printing company in the future.

6 medicine maneuvers

It's bad enough that your baby is sick-no you have to figure out how to get the medicine to down and stay down. And when my daughter was still a baby, it was really difficult to give her medicine, especially the one that doesn't smell and taste good.

So through the course of my motherhood, I have these tricks and techniques that I follow so the medicine will stay down and go down. And I got this from Parenting.com
  • Pre-measure the correct dose, then use an infant medicine dropper to either slowly drop the medicine into your baby's mouth, let her suck on the dropper, or squirt it quickly back into the corner of her cheek. My little one usually suck on the dropper and if she is crying I don't do the last one, she would just gag and throw up. So you can wait until she/he has calm down before giving the medicine.
  • If your baby hates the dropper, let her suck the medicine through a clean bottle nipple.
  • she won't cooperate? Try mixing the medicine with a small amount of formula or breast milk.
  • pop a pacifier in your baby's mouth immediately after giving her the medicine-it will make her more likely to suck and swallow. Now for babies that don't use pacifier like my little one, what I do is i gave her the medicine and then I breastfeed her. So more than likely she will swallow because she is breastfeeding.
  • if you baby spits out what seems like all of the medicine or vomits within 5 to ten minutes after giving the medicine then repeat the full dose. If the medicine stayed down for about 20 minutes before she vomited, you don't need to give it to her again.
  • if everything else fails, then ask your pediatrician for a prescription in suppository.
If everything else fails, then you can ask your pediatricians advice.

What's in a name?

I was tagged before and the rule is to get the equivalent words or syllable in Japanese using the letters of my name. And if I can remember it right the meaning of my name in Japanese was rukitataka. That was just my first name, what more if I translate my last name. My last name in Japanese is rukatomiku. That actually sounds much better compare to my first name. So putting it together it will be rukitataka rukatomiku. And I have no idea if there is a nicer meaning of my name in Japanese but if you are Ichigo Kurosaki from the Japanese Manga Bleach the Movie then your name means "first guardian" or "he who protects." I think I like that one better.

I remembered when I was in the Philippines there has been a lot of anime being shown on TV so if you are into Japanese Anime, this might be something that you want to watch. I've read from the site that there is an exclusive behind the scene look and a first time ever interview with the director.

Also, if you want to do an advanced purchase ticket all you have to do is type in your zip code on the "find theaters" box and don't forget to select the date. This movie will be shown two nights only, June 11th and the 12th, 2008.

Wordless Wednesday

My daughter did this for almost 4 minutes (by the way she is 20 months old) and she has all the energy all night. After we took a bath she still wants to run around even though she was already exhausted. You can tell because she is grasping for air already. Here hands and feet are also cold. But the good thing about it is after she had her warm milk she feel sleep quickly.

I wish I can have this energy.

Protect yourself and your family

Identify theft is one of the top most complaints received by the Federal Trade Commission and I am not really surprised about this one because there are a lot of people that are being victimized by identify theft. Let's face it, with all of the latest technology and the Internet people can get your information really easy. Even the forms and applications that you fill out from companies or agencies, you can never guarantee that your personal information will be protected. Even my daughter is getting junk mails and she is only 20 months old.

So what do you do when your personal information has been stolen? Honestly before I have no idea on what to do. But when I started working for a car loan company, we have to go through this training on how to read credit report and from then on, I got all this information on how to protect myself and my family from identity theft.

Now, I can honestly sleep good and not think of having problems in the near future about protecting my personal information because I always have lifelock protecting our personal information.

Where do you get ink for your printer?

I was wondering, where do you get your ink printer. We are almost out of toner now and I am about to start summer school. That means I better look for one. Something that's not to expensive. We been getting our toner from Walgreen's and we were doing the refill ink and doesn't cost a whole lot. But the last time that we had a refill the guy broke the cartridge so my husband ends up going back to the store to get our refunds. Since then we haven't had a refill yet.

So now that I am about to start summer school again, I need to look for an alternative where I can buy our toner cartridge for our printer.

I saw some websites that were selling toner but I haven't really read and check their information. I want to be able to just order my ink and then wait for it to be delivered the same day I order it. Plus of course I want a 100% guarantee against defect and at least 30 days guarantee. To give me time to check the ink and if I wanted to send it back I have enough time.

Hopefully, I will be able to find one before school start in June.

Get rid of your stubborn acne

Do you have those pesky acne that you have been trying to remove all these years? I have a little bit of white heads around the nose area and there are a lot of people that are suffering from having worst case than I am. Just to give you an overview, there are two types of acne: non inflammatory and inflammatory (whitehead and blackheads belong to non inflammatory type while papule, pustule, nodule and cyst belongs to inflammatory type). I have to make sure to keep using facial wash in order to keep my face clean but it's getting annoying sometimes. Instead of being able to do something else you have to do these long list of stuff so you can nourish your skin. And probably for those who have worse case than I am it's a struggle using acne treatment.

I have tried different facial wash but so far Murad is one of the best acne treatment that I found in the market. First, it cleans, then treats and lastly hydrate your skin making your skin clear and always looking healthy.

What's good about this acne treatments is that it does not contain Benzoyl Peroxide which is a common ingredients on some acne products and it makes your skin dry and irritated. Also, if you want to make sure what type of treatment that will work for you, ask your dermatologist.

Blog Makeover

For those who are frequent visitors on my blog, you probably noticed that I have a new template. From 2 column I am now on 3 column. Yes! Finally I was able to finish the designs that its well with the overall themed of my blog. I have been wanting to get a 3 column template for my blog but cannot find the time to do the layout. And today, since it is Memorial day hubby is home I finally finished the template and uploaded it.

And I am excited and overjoyed of the way it turned out. This is also a celebration for me because my Technorati Authority reach 300. Woohooo! Then my Alexa traffic rank also went down (low score is good) so more hooray!

Let me know what you think of my new template by leaving me a comment. If you want to get a blog makeover, check out Designs By Vhiel.

Thinking of getting a credit card?

You want to build up your credit history or you just want to get a credit card so you can use it for emergency or perhaps if you are a student like me, use it for school.

Finding the right credit card for you only takes a couple of searches online. However, when there are a lot of company that are giving you offers, you must be wise enough in choosing which offer to take.

Some of the things that you need to consider are no annual fee credit card, low interest rate, flexible plan, no hidden fees and of course it must be in conjunction to what you are looking for. The first one on my list is the no annual fee. You don't want something that would actually let you pay just to use the credit card. It's always a better choice to find a credit card company that offers no annual fee.

If you can find all these features in one credit card, then you are in luck. Just make sure that you read the fine prints.

How do you find time to get in touch with friends?

I just finished talking to one of my closest friend. We lived thousands of miles probably million of miles from each other and the only way that we get to talk is by chatting. Calling is a little bit expensive so online is the only way that we can communicate.

But what about the friends that live close to you? Do you find the time to visit them and hang out with them. What I mean by close is that, you can get to them by hopping on your car and driving there. Maybe couple of miles, 30-40 minutes away from you.

With me, I don't get to visit friends that are close to where I lived. Heck, my sister live like 20-30 minutes from us but we seldom see each other. I guess when we have kids, we tend to get preoccupied with a lot of stuff that we cannot find time anymore. But I believe that if you value your friendship, find some time to spend with each other's company. Make it your "ME" time. It will help you relax and rejuvenate which gives you more energy when you get home. You will actually feel refreshed and would be able to take care of your family much better.

Some tips on what to do when you go out with friends.
  • watch a movie - this is always fun. watch something that you been dying to watch in a while or watch something funny.
  • have some coffee - if you are a coffee lover, you can head out to your local coffee shop and just have a little talk.
  • go shopping- now you don't have to spend a whole lot for this, you can either window shop or go for sales.
  • go on a spa with friends
  • play bowling- if you don't ball you can watch sports that you like.
  • vacation trip with your family and your friends family. The best time to bond with your friend and her family is to go on a mini vacation. Go on a beach or take a tour of the tourist spot in your area.

Chose Your WebHost Wisely

As I have mentioned in my previous post (web hosting), if you are an owner of an online store or even a blog, you wanted a host that will provide you all the features that you need. You should not only look for a short term but rather long term benefits.

The web host should be able to grow with your business. You don't want to have a web host for a year and then move to another one because it is not meeting your needs anymore. Believe me it is a lot of work in order to do that. Specially if you are the webmaster, now if you are paying somebody to move all your stuff to your new web host then it will cost you a lot.

So if you are looking for web hosting articles that will give you unbiased information, and some good tips in finding a good web host you can search for web hosting articles online and try to get as much information before purchasing one.

Good luck and happy reading.
