Father's Day Thoughts!

4 years: My Daddy can do anything!
7 years: My Dad knows a lot…a whole lot.
8 years: My father does not know quite everything.
12 years: Oh well, naturally Father does not know that either.
14 years: Oh, Father? He is hopelessly old-fashioned.
21 years: Oh, that man-he is out of date!
25 years: He knows a little bit about it, but not much.
30 years: I must find out what Dad thinks about it.
35 years: Before we decide, we will get Dad's idea first.
50 years: What would Dad have thought about that?
60 years: My Dad knew literally everything!
65 years: I wish I could talk it over with Dad once more.

Going to Vegas?

Tomorrow is father's day and if you have plans to go to Las Vegas but haven't had the chance to find a hotel, I suggest you check out Riviera hotel. They are offering the following deals:

Weekday Specials: *

"Standard" room is $27 on:Aug 13th, 30th.
"Standard" room is $29 on:Jun 21st-25th, 28th-30th.

Weekend Specials: *

"Standard" room is $69 on:Jun 19th-20th, 26th-27th. Aug 14th.
"Standard" room is $79 on:Jul 3rd, 10th, 17th. Aug 21st.

Pretty good if I should say. If only we are closer to Las Vegas and we don't have a child, we are probably heading there now with this sales that they are offering.

This hotel and casino is comprised of four towers that surround the pool. A place where a lot of television shows and movies where shot there. It is located at lower north end (not far from center strip) of the Vegas Strip and is convenient to the Sands Expo, Las Vegas Convention Center and Fashion show Mall. So if you wants a place that is close to everything, this is one of the best place that you can get.

For full details of the place, you can check them out. I think I am going to go ahead and send this to my friend. They are heading their for the weekend for father's day.

People who loves to travel collect memories through photographs, diaries and videos. They do it to preserve the great memories at the same time to be able to share it with friends and families.

Open Travel is a website where you can share travel experiences, plan your trips and connect with other travelers. Created specifically for travelers to connect with each other and share experiences at the same time make friends. And away they go...

I love taking photos and having a nice camera is something that I been wanting to have lately. I been seeing a lot of photography blogs and it's really frustrating knowing that I cannot take photo's as nice as they can. First of all, I cannot afford to get those nice camera's that photographer use. My digital camera is really old and I think it's just time to upgrade.

I found this really nice Canon camera online but I have to start saving now so I can get one before we go on vacation.

Tonight I took the picture above with my husband and daughter. We went to the park regardless of the tornado warning heading our way. Bad idea! Really bad.

We stayed there for about 30 minutes and when my husband said it was time to go, we started running toward the suv. The reason, the wind is starting to blow really hard. By the time we got to our vehicle, rain is pouring, lightning and thunder everywhere. In other word, we got hit by the storm while leaving the park. It was the most growling experience that I had since the Mt. Pinatubo Volcano eruption in the Philippines.

Have you seen the movie twister? Tonight it feels like that. We were trying to escape the storm and get home as fast as we could. Good thing it was my husband driving. I was really scared. Some of the power lines over in Mckinney were all down and there were traffic jam everywhere. People all just wanted to get shelter from the big storm. Good thing the storm passed quickly. By the time we got home, the storm was almost gone. We should have just stayed home.

On our way home, I was trying to get a photo of the rain but I can't hardly see it. It wast just all dark outside because of the heavy rain. I keep telling my husband I cannot see the road and that we should just stop somewhere safer. But the only place I can think of was the gasoline station where there is some sort of shelter. Then again, its dangerous since there's a lot of lightning. So he just keep driving until we got home.

Thank God, we are all safe. Although we got wet when we got out of the vehicle. But we are not doing that again.

Missing Home

Tonight I was browsing around my sister's account over at Friendster. She uploaded new pictures and I saw this picture.

These are my nephew's and niece in the Philippines. Three of them haven't meet me personally... just the two oldest boys. I left the Philippines December 2003 and I haven't been home since then...even for a vacation. I have been wanting to go home for a while now but since there's three of us now, financially speaking we just can't afford it. I should have went home when my sister went home last 2005. But the issue back then was the vacation days. I was just new in my job and I can't afford to be going on a vacation, not when I am new in the job.

And now that I have a daughter, I been really wanting to go home so she can meet her cousins in the Philippines. Right now she only know 2 of her cousins. All from my side. She haven't even meet her aunt and grandparents from the Philippines. My in-laws are all gone so the only grand parents she has are my parents.

Seeing the photos just made me realize that I am really missing a lot of my family back home. Hopefully 2011, we will be able to go home. I am hoping that by that time, I am done or at least close to being done with school.

I been checking some travel deals lately to see what we are looking for financially to get home. And let me tell you, with the economy I need to start saving. I've seen some great prizes and if we have enough to cover the expenses we might have a chance of going home. Sometimes though I wish that the Philippines is not that far so anytime we want to go home we can. And my daughter will have more time to get to know her cousins. Not like this where it takes years before we can go home.

It's nice if we can afford. We can go home every year or anytime we want to. Wow! That will be just lovely. But nope! We can't!

Oh well. I guess we just have to wait and see what comes next.

Continous Makeover

Life in our house nowadays seems to be in constant makeover. The last time I blog, I was talking about the renovation that we are doing in our bathroom. Since my husband is working during weekend, whatever he finish the last time he worked on the bathroom will be the look of our bathroom. So I always feel like our house is a construction zone.

Today, he works on it again, since Mon-Wed is his weekend. And this morning when my daughter was in the bathroom, I noticed that the carpet by the door was wet. I thought my daughter's diaper leaked and the carpet got wet. When my husband checked, it didn't smell like pee and as he check further he noticed that the side of the bathroom is also wet.

So of course with the new carpet we immediately got some towels to dry off the carpet. We can't have leaked in the new carpet. No way! He pull out the cabinet and there it was, the culprit! The pipes on the wall was knock off. Instead of water draining in the drainage, it was draining in the floor. Good thing we caught it on time and it didn't ruined the carpet.

Aside from the bathroom makeover, we also did some yard project last week. Adding sod on the side of the house and adding some bricks for the flower bed. And since I am constantly in the living room, I been wanting to get some new rugs to add some new style to it. Since we had a new carpet put on, we remove the area rug in the living area and move it to the dining area. So now, my next project will be to get a new area rug.

I hope also that after the bathroom is done, we can go back to finishing our kitchen. Yup! Our kitchen is not done yet. There's a couple of touches still with the counter top as well as the cabinets/pantry. Them some crown molding.

After everything is done, next is the master's bedroom. Painting, baseboard, closet, window... etc.

The upgrades and makeover never seems to stop. It feels like forever but to think about it, we just been living in this house for 3 years. Hopefully by the time we are ready to sell the house, we are done with the upgrades.

It's time to make some extra cash for this house..

Kitchen and Bathroom Makeover

The fast couple of days my husband has been really busy remodeling our bathroom. I have blog about our house which was built in 82 but it was never really taken care of by the previous owner so when we bought the house it was in bad shape... really bad shape. And ever since we have been renovating the house both inside and out.

The first area that we did was the kitchen. That time I was about 5 months pregnant and we have gutted out the whole kitchen. My husband built it from scratch. And so far it turn out to be really wonderful. Although it's still not done... some cabinets has not be painted. Still the overall appearance is really gorgeous, specially with the copper kitchen sinks.

With the bathroom renovation in progress, I am so tempted to get the same copper sinks for the bathroom. But since we already bought the whole set for the bathroom, we can't get the copper anymore. Well, maybe the next house that we are going to move to.

Maybe even the laundry area will have the copper sink.

How to Interest a Child in Gardening

I love gardening, seeing all the pretty plants and flowers growing in the garden. However, if you are like me who has a toddler gardening is a little bit tricky. But it doesn't have to be because you can interest your child into gardening at such a young age.

How you approach a season of Mommy and Me gardening will affect how your child feels about gardening into adulthood. Is gardening a tiresome chore of weed pulling and trying not to get too dirty? Or is it a venture of new textures and smells and open exploration? You may have your own ideas about how your garden should grow, but when you're introducing your child to the pastime, get down on a child's level and set some small fry priorities. Some tips:

  • Relax your standards. Uneven rows and a few prized weeds won't do any real harm. Neatness is for grown-ups.

  • Involve kids in garden design. Let them chime on what to plant and where to plant it.

  • Pick a theme. How about a Pizza Garden of basil and tomatoes? Or a Butterfly Garden filled with your local butterfly species' favorite plants?

  • Plan some craft projects. Waiting for a planted garden to bloom can seem like an eternity. Pass the time with garden-related craft projects, such as making a scarecrow or painting stepping-stones.

  • Allow for exploration. Your kids may want to do some extra hole digging, check out the bugs, or make mud pies. This is all part of the junior gardener experience. Go with it.
