Something new to learn everyday

This semester I am taking Nutrition for my online class and when I register for it, I was expecting a little bit different information that I am getting right now. I was thinking that it will be less of the science but I was wrong. So far I have read up to chapter 6 and the last topic I've read was about fatty acid. I even learned something new, conjugated linoleic acid(CLA).

According to the information I've read CLA were discovered accidentally by researchers looking for mutagens in beef. Found specially in meat and dairy products derived from ruminants.

When I tried to search for this particular topic online I've found an article at Wikipedia which states that:

"CLA is also known for its body weight management properties, which include reducing body fat and increasing lean muscle mass. Over 30 clinical studies have been published investigating the effect of CLA on weight management. The trials have quite variable designs, which leads to inconsistency. However a meta-analysis conducted in 2007 clearly shows that CLA does indeed have a small impact on fat mass.

Although CLA is best known for its anti-cancer properties, researchers have also found that the cis-9, trans-11 form of CLA can reduce the risk for cardiovascular disease and help fight inflammation".

There's always something new that we can learn just by reading. And I can honestly say that having this information makes me want to keep reading my books.
