Spring Vacation

Are you going somewhere for spring vacation? Me and my husband has been talking about going somewhere for a week vacation. However, we don't really know where we want to go and how much money we need to do it.

So here's a few questions/issues that I have in order to do this vacation.

For a family of 3 how much of a budget should we a lot? Airfare, hotels, food, transportation, in case of emergency funds.

The Place : It should be family friendly but at the same time adult can have fun too. This is not just about the kids, parents should be able to enjoy this as well.

Is it cheaper to drive or fly?

Hotels/Lodging: I don't want to stay on a cheap hotels and I'll end having to deal with bugs. It should be something that we are comfortable and my daughter will be able to sleep. I don't mind having lodge furniture, specially if the place is in tune with the nature.

I was thinking of maybe Colorado and maybe stay in a cabin. But I am not sure if that's going to be too cold still. It's difficult to plan without enough information.

I guess I should be doing more research about good places to go and stay. Well, if you have any suggestions don't forget to leave your comment.

Working in the medical field...

I have been working as a nurse on a skilled and rehab facility for a few months now. And I am having some mix emotions as to my decision of becoming a nurse. I love being a nurse, love that I am able to help patients/resident with their needs, but there are times that I don't really feel like I have signed up for this job.

I don't mind dragging the medicine carts over and over all day, in the course of a 16 hours work day... sometimes even more or having to help out the resident with daily activities, checking blood sugar, giving breathing treatments or changing dressing. But there are just some stuff that goes with working on a skilled facility that I don't like.

Let me mention a few of them.

The doctors...not all doctors are the same... but if you are a doctor and you have a facility that you have patients, you need to expect calls from nurses about your patient. I hate it when doctors makes you feel like they don't want anything to do with their patients or that they are always in a hurry.

Some seasoned nurses loves to eat their young...

Workers in general who just go to work and don't do much. They want to do as little as possible and loves to complain.

And of course there's a lot more. If I keep going, this is going its not going to end.

Now this may not be accurate because I have never worked in other places as a nurse. But these things are just my observation. And it makes me think twice, do I really want to work a nurse or perhaps I am just seeing this one side of nursing and not giving it a chance.

What's happening?

Nothing much really... just that I discovered that my daughter loves to play chess. She has been asking and asking me and sometimes her dad to teach her to play chess. And I keep telling her to wait for until she is old enough to understand the moves of the pieces. But, one weekend we didn't have anything plan so her dad taught her the game and although she can't remember some of the moves...she's only 4 years old, she loves the chess game I have downloaded on my phone. With the game she can actually see where she can move it and she knows the basic, such as she has to protect the king and that a queen is very powerful...

There's an area in one of the strip mall in Fairview, Texas that has a mini chess set and she was absolutely loving that place. Here's a picture of her with the chess pieces. What can I say, she loves the queen.

On the side note, I just have to blog about our tree. So the tree that we have infront is a bit old and grumpy...lol. It's old because all the limbs seems to be just hanging and don't have energy anymore. And today, we lost another limb because apparently it can't hold the weight anymore. So not only that our tree is old and grumpy, its also balding... Pretty soon we don't have a choice but to cut it and replace it with a new one. One that doesn't get all the water from the ground.

I love using my headset when I listened to music or study and I don't want to disturbed anybody. Plus I can focus because I can tune out all the other noise in my environment. Though sometimes, it's irritating because of the cord that you can to connect to the phone or the computer and sometimes it's all tangled and I have to fix it first before I can use it. Too time consuming as I say it.

I love shopping at Target. It's of those stores that you can't really go wrong with. Heck you can even call my daughter a Target kid. You can always find me there looking for sales...down by the kids area.

If you are a nursing student or somebody who is going to medical field, most of the time you are broke. Unless your parents are providing for all the things that you need then you should be okay, but if you are the one paying for your education or you have student loans, believed me it's a struggle.

You have books, food and scrubs to buy. Not including the other things that you need. When I started nursing school, I had a hard time looking for a place to buy my scrubs. So tomorrow is my oldest sister's birthday. Today, I told my daughter about it and asked her if she want's to make her aunt a birthday card, and of course she was so excited about it. My daughter loves making card for people she knows. It's like spreading the love for her. It tickles her to make any kind of art.

Do I Start Looking for Jobs Now or Later?

It's so good to be able to blog again. I know I should be studying since I have a test on Monday. And there's only about 6 weeks left and its graduation (crossing my fingers) and I should be really focusing... or maybe I should start looking for jobs.

I did get a job offer but it's not in the specialty that I am going now. It's for my previous major. It's a sure work already but it's only part time. I am so tempted to accept it but I really need to focus in order to pass all the test plus the finals. And then of course the board after.

I also keep getting sales jobs from different places and I have never really done any sales job. I don't think I'd be good with sales job anyway... People who work in this type of job needs a lot of charisma plus you have to be able to maintain a good conversation with your potential buyer. It's not that I can't carry a conversation, it's just that if I don't believe in the product I don't think I can sell it.

Anyways, I am torn if I need to start looking for jobs now and sending my resume or wait until I graduate. What do you think?

New Gadget

So I have been thinking about the gift I can give to my husband for his birthday. I have to plan it really early even though the big day is still 2 1/2 months away. But the thing about it is that, in order to give him something that he can use, I have to save up some money... that means I have to start now.

I been looking for the small netbooks because it's perfect for him. If he has one, he won't have to borrow mine. And it will be very convenient specially for the business. He can just load all the stuff that he needs and access it anytime, instead of going to the desktop to all the information for installation.

Although, what I really want to do is find something that is economical but will have the memory and the space he needed. The one I found was $200 and I think that is reasonable already. I just have to check what is the memory and the hard drive space and if we can add some more later if we need to.

Backyard Addition

My one week vacation from school has been very rewarding. I say this because, not only that I was able to spend time with my family, we (me and my husband) were also able to make my daughter a sandbox and a swing at the backyard to keep her occupied. We had this plan for a long time now but it just hasn't materialize and finally this week. It did.

Another addition in our backyard is the vegetable garden that I am working on. I have this seeds from the pumpkin that we carved last year and they are ready to be planted. Hopefully, I can plant them before I go back to school next week (crossing my fingers on that).

Also, we started building a bench swing set last night. Hopefully my husband will be able to finish that next week. That means, I can spend some more time in the yard while studying. Ha ha ha... I'm just imaging the studying... I don't think there's any studying that's going to happen.

With all of the things happening in our backyard, sometimes I think that it should have been much better if I just work full time and did my mba management instead of going back to school and taking up another major. I don't really want to stress out with having to do another major when I can just continue with my education and do mba management since I've always wanted to have my own business. I think it would be great. But then again, who knows what the future hold.

That was just some thought on my part...

Back to the stuff in the yard... I plan on documenting the vegetable garden and if it's going to be successful. I can't wait to actually have those huge pumpkin in our backyard. And, if it turns out good and we have a lot, watch for the free pumpkin, specially if your in my area. Just come by and grab one. :)

Have you heard about one company who is looking for homes that will let their house be painted (billboard ad) in exchange for paying their mortgage every month? I thought that was a brilliant idea for the company. According to the report the company has received so many applications and is now in the process of choosing. You can tell that there are so many home owners that are having a hard time with this economy. If our house is in a good location, I'd probably apply for it. They may have to cut the tree infront though in order for the ads to be seen. I wonder if I can still apply if I have a motor home. And, is it going to affect my motorhome insurance? Since it's going to attract a lot of people and news, the security and privacy is not so much. But then again, there's a risk on everything.

It just caught my attention today and how it can help with mortgage payment. With the price of gas soaring high, I may end up sending an application for this.

So much things to do so little time

Finally, I get to have a one week off from school. Although that break is getting to close to its end and I haven't really felt that I did have a break. I have so much that I wanted to do but I don't think I can do any of them. Hopefully at least one... I hope

This morning I woke early hoping I can do some walking but didn't happen. I should have probably woke my husband so the 2 of us can do some walking...but then again that will turn into a family thing. If my husband woke up, that means we have to wake up our daughter too.

Oh well, hopefully tomorrow I can do some walking so I don't have to keep checking this adapexin-p which is weight loss supplement that says it specializes in suppressing appetite, increases metabolism and have more energy. I have been eating a lot lately and it's adding more stuff on the mid section.

Playing Around with Photoshop

I got hooked as usual. I took some pictures yesterday by the park and I edited one last night and added it on my album on facebook and today I wanted to play around with some effects. I really loved how other photographer give their photo's some effects and I just have to find out how they are doing it.

And here's the result of the photo.

First I adjusted the color and put it on auto color. Then edited the other colors by using the selected color options. Choose the neutral under color and played around with the numbers on it. I wasn't able to save the first version I made because my computer had some hybernation issue. But I love how this one turn one anyway... so no biggie. I also change the curve a little bit to make it a little lighter. I still need to learn more about using Photoshop to edit pictures... this self studying is a little harder than somebody just telling you what to do. :)

Where did the spring go?

What happen to the spring weather...all of a sudden we are the 40's and I didn't even see the sun today. The sunflower that my daughter was trying to grow is beginning to freeze up.

With the weather being cold we can't really do anything in the yard. I had plans of maybe build a swing for our backyard but that didn't happen. Then, there's the painting of the fence which we can't start because it too cold to paint outside. And we were supposed to pain the box for the home speakers, but that one didn't happen either.

As my daughter said "I can't wait until summer!" With me, I can't wait until school is over so I can do stuff and not to worry about not passing any test because I didn't study. Whoah! How did I go there? Anyways, the weather is really messing up my plans for my yard...but I want to make this into positive. At least now I don't have to worry about the yard being to dry to start our vegetable garden.

Green Living : Shoe Basket

Spring time is here... I can see a lot of trees that are blooming, some of my plants are coming back to life and the grass in the backyard are starting to get taller. I am seeing a lot of weeds to. It that time of the year again. Time to do some "green cleaning". It's the best time to start involving kids and nurturing their love for the garden and nature. Not only for the garden but teaching them as well on how to keep the house clean and organized.

So I was thinking of maybe starting something CREATIVE for my blog. Although I don't know how I am going to accomplish this since I have so little time to do anything else. But I am hoping that I can start it. I just about it today while I was browsing and saw some cool ideas.

I think I might start with creating a shoe basket. Our house is small and there's really not a lot of storage space. And I am having a hard time finding some creative ways to make sure that our shoes are not all over the place.

So here's the project, it's called "SHOE BASKET". Right now all my daughter's shoes are by the doorway so I was thinking of buying a basket like this:

I have some basket's around the house that I think I can empty out so I don't have to buy one. Then refurbish it and it should be perfect. I'll start with my little girls shoes and see how it works out.

Wide Open Space

So I've always wanted to have a huge land and have plenty of horses perhaps... but the problem is I dont know how to ride one. I'm sure I'll learn.

When I was a kid we live by a coconut plantation and I think it was beautiful. There's a lot of open space and it just seems endless and out of nowhere. As a matter of fact there was no electricity, no tv (we do have a radio), gosh it feels so old already... just thinking of not having any electricity when I was little.

There was this place that I love to see whenever we go to the lake and I keep forgetting to take a picture of it. But the place is so serene, huge land... ranch style. There's even one and its being used as a training area for equestrian.

I found a few photos online that I think is a description of what I am envisioning for. I hope to own one piece of land someday.

Human Growth Hormone

I have a question: Would you let you kids have the human growth hormones?

According to a website that I've read about hgh supplements, HGH injection is an FDA approved to treat kids that are not producing enough of this hormone. It is also being used for patients that had surgery, radiation and is now lacking this hormone. But even though it has been approved, it still comes with a lot of risk. Which by the way, all medications comes with risk.

So why does a lot of people still use steroids?

This is another of those question that I cannot answer. If you want to share your insight about this, feel free to leave your comment. I want to read all about it.

Although it makes me think that I should have probably had this injections when I was a kid, maybe I could have grown a little bit taller.

There's just so much controversies about growth hormones. But as far as I know the only FDA approved was the one to treat children's growth disorders and adult growth hormone deficiency. It can only be purchased if you have a prescription from a doctor.

Another FDA approved use of growth hormone is the one that is being used for cow specific form of growth hormone. It's called bovine somatotropin for increasing milk production in dairy cows. No wonder there's commercial that says their milk is all natural... probably without the growth hormone. But who knows right.

Do they work?

Diet pills, do they work? Without exercise and food modifications. You take the pills but don't change any of your food choices, you still eat the same stuff. You don't do any exercise... pretty much doing the same routine and eating the same stuff that you been eating before you start taking diet pills. So, does it work?

I can't answer my question personally, because I haven't really tried any. But according to the books and research I've read it does but only for a short while. Some will let you lose a lot of weight in an instant but you can't just keep taking the pills forever. At some point in your life you have to stop.

After you stop taking the pills, most of the time the weight will come back. The reason which I know most of you know is because, the person taking the pills did not really do any modifications as far as lifestyle. No exercise was incorporated, no food changes.

The maintenance is the one that is difficult to achieve. This personally I can agree. I mean I don't have a lot of weight to lose but doing the maintenance, exercise and eating healthy sometimes is hard.

So while we are on the topic about acne, here's the real question. What is the real acne treatment that work, is it a natural acne treatment, surgical or ????

I guess nobody really knows, until some scientist discover something that will work for everybody. Let's face it, there's so many brand and cosmetics in the market that you just don't know which one. As I always recommend, to consult a dermatologist because every individual is different. One can really not generalized and assume that one brand will work for everybody.

It sure sounds good though, ONE BRAND FITS ALL... its like one size fits all... which by the way don't work. So not true. I hate those that makes clothing or stuff and it says free size or one size fits all. It's totally not working for consumers like me.

There's just no personalization and it feels like there's no individuality. Everybody is the same.

I didn't know indeed. I thought that acne medications comes only in liquid. Losing weight...not only that it can make you feel better it can also make your body healthier. With some many complications associated with being overweight, no wonder there's so many people that want to lose those extra weight. However, since we are in the age of the "DRIVE THRU" and "FAST FOOD" its tough for most people.

Today I checked what was the weight that is appropriate for my height and I found out that I am already over the recommended. It wasn't a whole lot but I know that since I have been eating a lot of fast food, no time to cook to take to school and when I get home I am tired from being in school and work all day. There's just no way that I can still have the strength to do any decent cooking in order to make sure that my family is getting the right nutrient and not get overweight.

No wonder there's a lot of website that has been sprouting and talks about being overweight. You can also find a lot of diet pill reviews website with testimonials as well as diet pills recommendation. I was blogging about on my other blog on how the pores on my nose has been breaking out because I haven't been getting enough sleep and rest plus I have been so stressed out with all of the stuff for school. I barely have a time to study, and I need more time. So now, I am trying to find the best blackhead remover online to see if I can try it. Time To Expand

Having a small garage is not at all ideal for somebody who are using it for storage as well as a place to do install. That's what happens to our tiny garage. I cannot remember ever parking my car/suv there since we bought the house. With all of the stuff that we store there's just no way that an suv will fit.

After a few years my husband finally decided to remove some of the old stuff that has been there and finally we sold all the little cars that we have stored there and the shelves has been remove... now there's a little room to it. But now my husband is planning of moving all the stuff that he is using for the car audio business in the garage and turn the one behind it as a storage... and there's still no way that I can park my suv there... I though there for a second that I can finally park... oh well.

Makes me wonder if maybe we can just get one of those metal buildings shown below and make that as the installation area as well as a little office for the car audio business. There's two bay area and a little office, which makes it perfect. I think there's enough room/land by the backyard to add a building like this. I just don't know though were can we get the financing for it. It sure look good.

Health Care Industry

One of the industry that never seem to have any problem when it comes to work is the health care. There's always jobs in health care industry as they say.

When I graduated jobs in the computer where booming, but after I finished the demand was less. And a couple more years after a lot of the computer science graduate can barely find a decent job. I was lucky enough to land a great job that pays well.

It's one of the reason why I am changing career. If you are in the health care industry you can always find something. It's so specialized that once you graduate and get your licence you will find something. Specially if you are in the nursing career. The demands are high specially in home health. A lot of the baby boomer are reaching that age where they start going to independent living, long term care and some nursing homes. I have seen more and more elderly that are being treated in the hospital as well.

By the next 5-10 years, there's going to be more demand on places that cater to the needs of the older population. And people who has the ability and expertise/training dealing with elderly will be sought after.

What Happened to the Weather?

If you live in Texas, this kind of weather is unusual. People gets paralyzed and get stuck inside the house due to the cold weather. I don't know about you but if this keeps going I won't be able to go anywhere. There's just no way that I can drive in an icy road.

On the brighter side, really brighter side you have to wear a protective glasses just to see outside. The sun came out today but it's not doing anything. It's not even melting any of the snow... let me take that back, its making the outside really bright I can barely see.

Another brighter side is that I don't have to go to school. My test are being postponed but as soon as we have school, we're going to have the test. So now my school schedule is all mess up. It's all over the place now. It's a crisis and I get so out of focus that nothing is retaining whenever I am trying to study.

I hope mother nature won't be so bad this coming weekend and next week. It wont be Texas anymore if we keep on staying below 20. We might as well move to Alaska.

Last week some of my classmates (ssshhhhh) are talking about taking some weight lose pills. And one of them said "your in nursing school and you want to start taking one?" All I can do was smile because she was right. With all of the things that we are doing, you can't really start something that might jeopardize your health.

I guess she was referring more to the side effects that some diet pills have, like an unusual going to the bathroom. And if you are in our class and you have to the potty break, you can't get in until the next break. So if for some reason you want to go outside and the professor decided not to give us a break until the end of the class, then you can't come back in. Tablet PC is the new must have electronic. It’s no secret that big brands like Samsung, Google, Dell, and Sony have had their own versions of the tablet PC in the works.

I told my husband that I want one for Christmas. However, if I can't download my books for school and read it from there, then never mind. He can just get me a new camera. I got the camera.

But, it doesn't mean that I don't want to have one, because I do. I think its a great innovations. I love new trying out the latest gadget, although most of the time we can't really afford it. It's so expensive...for us anyway.

Looking for a tent?

I haven't been on a real camping where you put up your tent and do all sort of camping stuff. But back in the days when I was still in college, the first time, I do so much community work that most of the places that we stays with feels like we are always in a camp. I usually bring camping gear since our sleeping quarters are not so much like a hotel but rather more of like a camping ground. I know its totally different but that's how I feel.

So Need A Vacation

One of the things that I missed these days is taking a long vacation. There's no time. I go to school Monday - Friday and on times that I am not in school, I have to work and when I am not at work, I spend some time with my daughter and do some housework. Now if I still have some time then I have to hit the book and the readings, otherwise I am not going to make it to nursing school.

I am totally envious of those people who can just take off some time and go for a vacation. I used to be able to do it but these days the farthest I can go is the school and grocery store.

So now I am definitely looking forward to finishing nursing school then start looking for work and then maybe save up and have a vacation, away from Texas. I saw some great deal from Branson vacations the other day and I think it's something that we can check out. What I really want though is lounge on the beach or maybe some nature tripping. I'm so done with the city that I want to change atmosphere.

Is it time to change or keep the old one?

This is officially my first post for 2011. Wow! 2010 has passed but it still feels the same. I am just thankful that we have survived another year and hoping for 2011 to be filled with blessings and love from family and friends. I hope 2011 will be a year of exploration, meeting new people and keeping the ones that truly cares.

So back to reality...is it time to change or keep the old one? This question is about home decors, designs, fixtures and anything about the things that you have at home. Since it is the new year, do you usually update the things in your house or yard?

Personally, if you can afford it and its in the plan to update fixtures such as lights and decors in your house, I'd say go for it. The first month of the year is an ideal one since you are starting the new year. It's in with the new and out with the old. Plus it gives you the feeling of newness, a new start.

I found this gorgeous light and I think will really look good in the front of our house. I have been wanting to redo the flower bed in the front anyway, I just can't figure out, well actually more of I can't decide if I want to remove the old plants and start with a fresh one. But with this light beside the fountain, it will give me more inspiration to actually tackle and go for it.

Yesterday the weather was just right, not cold and not warm either. I think it was in the 70's yesterday. Today, its freezing outside, specially this morning and I bet here in a little bit the temperature will go down some more.

With the temperature getting colder and colder as we get closer to the first day of winter, which by the way is next week... and Christmas too, before you know it 2010 is done 2011 is here. Which means that I only have 1 week and its back to school again. Man, I really miss having lots of vacation, but I have to do it...go back to school. It will be the second semester. Three weeks is fast. I was hoping that I can at least go back to the walking routine before school started so I can be a little fit since we are going to be starting clinical 2 weeks after school start.

I may have to resort with a Lipofuze to get rid of some extra weight. I still have one week though, if I can just start walking again and getting some needed exercise I'm sure I'll be alright.

Picture Can Be Deceiving

You know how sometimes you look at yourself in a picture and it looks funny or just not right? Well, I took a picture of my husband and daughter and on the photo, my husband looks like he's huge. I should him the picture and he said it's because he was sloughing. I think maybe it's the angle, because I keep looking at the picture and my husband and it doesn't look right.

Now every time I see the picture I keep reminding him to get one of those pull up bar to do more exercise and to get back to walking. Although I am not sure about the walking part since it's a bit chilly outside. Although, come to think of it, he is the type of person who doesn't get cold easily. He grew up in Kentucky and used to the cold weather. But I think the biggest issue right now is "PROCRASTINATION". Yup! That's it. He keeps telling me that he doesn't have time since I go to school full time (Mon-Fri - all day) and he is the main caregiver to our daughter during those times she is at home and not in school. But he has some spare time during Monday and Wednesday morning. He usually ends up watching TV. But then again, why am I complaining? I don't do any walking myself. The only time I do some walking is when we go to the mall or walk from the parking lot to the office, plus its too cold for me to do any walking right now.

How I wish I can be more active to lose some belly fat.

This week or whatever is left of the week is final week in the school where I work and used to go. And it has been a crucial time for every student to be able to take their finals on time. However, we had some major, major problem with the company that is hosting the courses online and pretty much all the things that the school/student used for classes.

This happens not just in the school where I work but I've heard that other schools are having issues too since they are using the same provider. You would think that since most of the schools in Texas uses the same flat form this company will have their own
dedicated hosting in order to avoid problems during peak season ( finals and registration). We had the same issue during fall registration and then again the week of finals.

The school said it has taken actions already and so far it seems like it has been fixed. What this company need is to upgrade their server so it can hold the growing population. If not, they might end up losing their client.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale is done, but that doesn't mean you're not going to find any more sale. If you just take some time and look closely, you'll find there are still a lot of great deals and sales you can get for the holiday.

Although for those who don't have a lot of time to spare, the looking and going to different stores seems a lot of work and definitely will take a lot of time. But you can look at at this way. If you are going to the mall or stores, you are getting a lot of walking, which means you are getting some great exercise. Then, you are doing what you love to do- SHOP! And the great feeling comes when you find that one awesome deal and makes shopping more fun.

Weekly Find: { Heated Mattress = Low Electric/Gas Bill }

How much does your electric or gas bill when it's autumn and winter time? If you are like me or other people who get's cold easily, your bill probably goes to the roof, specially if you want your house to be comfortable and maybe just a little toasty.

So if your bills gets really high during this season, what do you usually do? Do you have any tips or things that you do in order to prevent the bill from soaring high?

Some of the people that I've talked to said that instead of cranking up their heater, they would just usually bundle up and use boots inside the house. Some buy those portable heater that they can use in a small area, such as the living room when they are watching television and just use that for heat and not the centralize heat in the house. They also use it during the night. However, the disadvantage of that during the night is it tends to get to humid inside the room that it feels like your getting suffocated. This sometimes happens with central heat as well.

I did found something that might work a little better for your room to use during the night and will not give that humid air. It's called heated mattress pads.

Need More Sleep

Having a hard time sleeping? Not me, right now I can barely open my eyes in order to finish my blog post. I have really tired lately due to a lot of studying for finals and tomorrow is the last day. It's the verdict day tomorrow. We get to find out if we pass the finals or fail and see our final grade. Oh my!

I do know some other people who needs sleep aid because they are having a hard time sleeping. I was like that during summer, but when school started and I have to get up really early, my body was able to adjust. So now, most of the time I my eyes start to feel droopy around 9PM. Sometimes I get sleepy as early as 8PM. Although, I'd probably sleep that early here in the next few days so I can recuperate from the the lost sleep. Plus of course my body needs a break so when school start again the last week of December I am ready.

So everybody in the family (me, husband and daughter) had been sick for more than a week now. It started with me and then my husband and daughter all got the cold and flu as well. And then my daughter had the pink eye and thank goodness today was the last day for the drop. And my coughing is almost gone. My voice is almost back to normal now.

Mine was a little bit worse because I had some upper respiratory infection and I have to take some antibiotic. And it took me a while to get to the doctor since me and husband don't have any insurance. We just can't afford it. If we pay for insurance we might end up in the street with no house to live on. Right now it's just my daughter that, since we don't want to risk it not having an insurance for her. But after I went to places such as primacare and careone to check how much it would cost to see a doctor, I told my husband that it might be time to check out Blue Cross health insurance. Good thing our primary doctor is not charging that much for a visit for cash patience.

It's just hard to imagine that those other places I've mentioned are charging way more. I thought they charge a little bit cheaper since they are advertising on TV how they care and they can get you in for little cost.

Oh, well... I guess that's how they get most of their patience.

Today, while I was trying to do culture presentation I browse a few ingredients on how to cook certain food. It amazes me how people can just whip up and turns out really delicious.

I have been wanting to cook some soup using most of the ingredients but it always ends up not having most of the ingredients. Finally, today I was able to get all of the ingredients that I need to cook some soup. Although I didn't find the particular banana that I need and saw some seeds flaxseed. Now I don't really have any idea of where can I use.

So I did a little digging and I was able to get the benefits of flaxseed. Flaxseed oil is found naturally in fish and nuts. Healthcare Job Listings

Now that my first semester in nursing school is almost over, I am starting to look around and check out some healthcare job listings. It's never too early to start looking since time nowadays seems to be flying so fast.

The only that I have now is the qualifications. Most of the listing I am finding wants somebody who has at least 1 year experience and for us new nurses, it's just impossible to compete. The only experience that we can present is our clinical.

I guess in any areas it's pretty much the same...for those who are newly graduates. Pretty much you have to make sure that during clinical you actually learn how to do the skills that you were taught to do. And just put yourself out there and be brave enough to face all competitions. Hopefully, having another degree in the computer industry will give me an edge since most of the hospitals and facilities now are being modernized and moving most into this technology.

Health Issue: Diet Pills

Let's talk about some diet pills. Now I know everybody has their own opinion about diet pills and would love to share them (don't forget to leave your comment, so we can read them) but let me first tell you this. Anything that you put in your mouth and being processed by your body will have an effect in some ways. You cannot really say that the side effect is minimal because it might be minimal for you, but it will not be for somebody else since our body reacts differently. We may have the same parts in our body and they are suppose to work the same, but there are circumstances that makes it different.

So back to the issue of diet pills. I've blog about some diet pills before, some specific such as ephedra diet pills, some are in general. But I always caution my readers to consult their primary care provider (physician) before taking any to make sure that you body can take it plus they might be able to direct you in the right direction.

Before I started going to nursing school I have no idea of what is an ecg machine and what it does. I haven't even seen one in person so if I've seen one before in the hospital I wouldn't know that its an ECG machine.

So I thought it would be great to share some information for those who are not medically inclined. I know wasn't a few years ago.

An electrocardiogram or what they call as ECG is the representation of the electrical activity of the heart (cardiac) muscle as it is recorded from the body surface. The picture below is an ECG machine and below that is a person hooked on an ECG machine.

The person will be hooked on the electrode and it is considered an non-invasive procedure.

Talk about the Christmas tree

The other day, my daughter who just turns 4 started asking about the Christmas tree. And I don't know why she started asking about it. I was thinking that maybe she saw a commercial on television that talks about Christmas, but it just shocked me that she was so into the decorations and all.

Her first question was "mommy are we going to have a Christmas?" I replied "Yes of course." "But where is our Christmas tree", she then asked again. So I told her "It's being stored in the garage". Now this time I am bracing for more questions. "Where in the garage", she asked again. Instead of answering her question I asked her a question instead while looking very suspicious on her. "Now why do you want to know?", was my question. So she had that looked like she was caught or something and she looks away a little bit and said "because I don't see it".

Our conversation went on after her statement telling me that she's not seeing the tree. I was just amazed at such a young age she already has ideas and can make decent conversation. We talk about maybe having a theme for our Christmas tree decor... a blue and white. Then she keeps telling me that maybe we can do blue and purple instead. Purple is her favorite color so every design has some purple to it. This lead me to start thinking about our led christmas lights. Maybe we can combine all the purple/violet light and white to create a different aura on the Christmas decor. I haven't really seen this color combination so we'll have to see how it looks like.

Something new to try

I like trying out new things, except if it involves height. Height terrifies me now a days. Used to, I don't have any problem, but as I was getting older, I been having phobias with height. I think it was after the earthquake and I started feeling the movement of building when even I am in the mall. I don't really know what's the correlation but my legs just get frozen and lose my balance when I am on higher grounds.

However, there is one thing that I want to try. That is to drive an ATV. I've seen kids in our neighborhood drive in one of the open field and I think its just something exciting to try. We have this huge open field behind our house and from time to time I would see some of the kids of our neighbor driving an ATV.

Although I am not really familiar as far as how much it would cost to get an ATV. I tried searching for prices and they usually start at $500. Of course you have to get different accessories for it as well. Polaris Accessories was some of the brand that I've look at. They don't come cheap but it's definitely something to check out if you want to try it.

Are you into hunting? I'm not. Although, I would like to try it sometime. I may have to practice on my shooting skill though. I've read though that when you are hunting, you need a top quality rifle scopes in order to locate your target because most of the time, you only get one shot.

Whether you realize it or not, most of us practice medicine without a license when we buy over-the-counter (OTC) medications. We use non-prescription OTC’s to treat symptoms . . . everything from colds to fevers to aches and pain. Even though they are safe to use as directed, they are also serious medicines. Since there are over 100,000 OTC’s, here are 10 simple suggestions on how to take OTC’s:

1. Always read ALL of the label to make sure that you have selected the right product for your symptoms. This includes dosing instructions and any warnings that may apply to you.

2. Look for an OTC that will treat only the symptom you have.

3. Know what to avoid while taking the OTC medication, i.e., foods, driving etc.

4. Ask the pharmacist if you’re in doubt about taking a particular OTC.

5. Take the medicine EXACTLY as stated on the label.

6. Use caution when taking more than one OTC at a time. Many contain the same ingredients which can mean you’re getting more than the recommended dosage.

7. Don’t combine Rx medications and OTC’s without asking your doctor or pharmacist. This can cause adverse reactions and/or interfere with the other drug’s effectiveness.

8. Make sure that your doctor has a list of ALL the medications you are taking: Rx’s, OTC’s and supplements.

Have you tried online auction? If you haven't it's basically the same as going to a live auction, the only difference is that this is online. You don't have to drive in order to get to the auction, you just have to log in to your computer and the internet and go to the website. Most of the time the website that is doing the auction is not only auctioning one particular item. It can range from 50 to 100 or maybe more. With online auction you can pretty much find everything...from shoes, watch, collectibles, etc. Sometimes you can even find real estate being auction.

I used to go on a website before and bid on some stuff (jewelries). The last one I bought was an earring and so far the earring is still with me :). I can't remember the website now though. I haven't been visiting the website in a while and I lost most of my favorites after our computer has crashed.

It's actually fun doing the auction. You can browse around for different things and looking for particular products is not hard to do. Usually its categorize or you can use the search options that auction websites offer.

Dress your body

Have you gain some weight lately? If not, did you lost some weight? If your answer to these two questions is yes, then this is for you.

I've gained weight, loss some but I just can't go back to the weight that I had before I got married. I don't think I want to be that skinny anyway. Anyway, I am fine with my current weight now, well maybe just loss 5 more pounds and then my body just need some toning, more walks and exercise.

Through those process (losing and gaining weights) I have never really change/upgraded my wardrobe specially my jeans. If you look at my closet, I still have jeans that don't even fit me anymore. I've donated most of it but I've noticed that I rarely wear my rocawear jeans anymore. It barely fits me anymore. The other day I was going through some of my jeans and looking for something I can wear, after staring at them for a while, I finally decided to just wear shorts. I just don't want to tug and pull all those skinny jeans and tight one and I can barely breath on it.

My biggest issue is that I never really shop for my current body size. I always have this thinking at the back of my mind that I am still losing weight and those jeans that I have in my closet, I will be able to wear them. For the mean time, whenever I shop I always ends up buying something that is tight and don't have room for me to breath. I have this thinking that I am trying to lose weight so if I buy a jeans that is a bigger size, I won't be able to use it when I lose some weight.

I was wrong... I should have been dressing up my current body size, instead of anticipating for something that may not happen. So now I am stuck with a bunch of jeans that are too tight.

Needing some new wardrobe

Where did the time go? I went outside this morning, around 6:30 am, all bundled up because it was cold outside, I can see fog and see my breath when I talk.

It was really cold for me... I should have grab one of my old sweaters and put it on but I was in a hurry trying to go outside to remind my husband to take the car seat and move it to my truck.

This afternoon I went through some of my long sleeves and trying to decide if I want to wear one to work, instead I end up wearing a sleeveless but turtle neck cashmere with a 3/4 serving as a jacket. I was contemplating about shopping for new longs sleeves and sweaters since we are going to be doing our clinical at a very early time and since the weather is now getting cold, I know I will be needing some thick ones.

Some of my sweaters has been with me for a while and I think it's just time to buy a new one.

For a change...

It's been a while that I blog. The reason for that is because of my schedule...very demanding. I now go to school full time, with 13 credit hours - it should have been 15 but one of my class got credited so, yey for me. But anyway, I have been very busy mainly with school and I also work part time now. Yup! It was a big decision to go back to work while I was doing full time in school, but it's only part time...plus the workload is very light.

Now that I am earning a little bit I was thinking of maybe...just maybe I can save up a little bit and when holiday comes or maybe just a little get away for the family, we can all go for a short vacation. I so need one after all my hectic schedule in school.

Maybe just for the weekend or one week vacation, somewhere outside Texas. Maybe Colorado.. I haven't been there. I was trying to find some good deals online and I saw some flight deals that might work for us. I really want to just spend some bonding time with my husband and my daughter and I think a week will be perfect. It's not too long because we don't have a lot of vacation time yet. I don't even know if I have paid vacation time off. Maybe not though, I'm only working part time. Maybe we can spend Christmas in Colorado...brrrrr...cold! It would be nice if we know anybody in Colorado.

Stressful Times

Summer is over and next week school will start.

For this semester it will be a hectic schedule for my family. Big changes will also happen. Major things has happened and the stress level in our house is to the roof. Well, maybe just mine and my husband.

Good thing there's online schools and online classes to make scheduling a little easier.

So, here's some of the things that are going to change. Before, I am the full time mom and student and always take care of our daughter. Now, I will be going to school monday to friday, all day. I just start working part time and that one is during the night, and then my daughter will be starting school as well. On top of that my husband works full time and he goes to school at night as well. Pretty much he will be the sole care giver during the day and sitter for some of the days that he will be working.

The sad part is that we (me and husband) will only get to see each other couple of hours during the night. He works on the weekend so no hopes there. But I am trying to look at it in the long run... After these hectic times/schedules we should be okay at least after 1 1/2 years when I start working full time. For now I am just glad that I can at least take some of classes online. Kudos to the people who started online schools.

Play dress up

Last week was dress up week...it's not the typical dress up like the kids are doing but it's something my husband and I did in order to make a great impression for a job interview.

Since it's a federal job that he was applying for we want to make an impression when it comes to the appearance. So, I had to make sure that all of the pieces of the suit goes together. I found some great long sleeve that he likes and it matches with the neck tie. The hardest part with this dress up was matching all the pieces together, but once I saw the long sleeve it all kinda blends with the rest.

We actually end up with two long sleeves. He used the second one that I bought and I guess the other one will be used for the next interview. The second long sleeve might look nice with a bow ties. I will have to check on how it will go with the rest of the suit.

The fun part is shopping and at the end of the day even though we were all tired (my daughter keeps complaining and telling us that we had enough too many stuff to do...usually she complains because she doesn't have anything to do)we were able to accomplish something. At the same time we had some family time.

Not all diet pills are created equal

Certainly true. Just like not all people are created equal.

So I have this love handle, it's not to much but it still shows specially if the clothing I am wearing is a little snug. As you can see on the picture on the left...:( We went swimming on the lake the other day and I just want to not see the excess skin when I wear bathing suit or even jeans or shorts.

I've heard that there is this new thing where they freeze the fat in your body but its not FDA approved yet. Also, I don't have that much fat in my body to actually do the freezing thing. I just have to do some good toning and exercise and I should get the result I want. I also read some apidexin reviews which are pretty good. But then again, I am not the type of person who will take drastic measure, specially when it comes to losing weight just so I can get faster result. And I only need to lose 10 more lbs.

Maybe after losing the 10 lbs and my body is toned down, my waist can look more like the edited photo... wishing!

My husband has been working really hard for the past couple of weeks now in order to lose weight. Finally he said that it's time and he will keep it. He even stop drinking soda and now I hardly drink any myself. The only time I drink is when we go out and eat. At home we drink water or juice.

To date, he lost 10 lbs and his gut is getting really small. He's gradually increasing the crunches that he is doing and hopefully at the end of the year, it will all be gone(crossing my finger).

I want to start doing some crunches as well, but right now I still have a lot of things that I have to finish at home so hopefully next week I can start doing a little bit. I wanted to lose some of the love handle at the same time tone down the arm and legs. I've noticed that they are looking flimsy.

I also want to lose at least 10 more lbs. The other day I checked my weight and it says 100lbs. Yey! So right now I just have to work on the toning part and losing a little bit more. I know there's diet pills that work out there and a lot of people are losing weight using them. But I think its not for me personally. The reason for that is, I really hate taking any pills...even vitamins.

I may have to start walking or maybe jogging. I think I am going to do it in the morning because it's a little cooler between 6am to 7am. And hopefully, the result will be the tone body that I want.

One of the thing that I like about our neighborhood is that it still feels like you live in the country. Like for example there is an open field behind our backyard and if you are into atv riding then its the perfect place to do it. I've seen some of our neighbors that use the field to do some 4 wheeler drive. It's safer because they are not driving by the road and the field is huge.

And then if you want to see get more fresh air, just drive by east and you will see a lot of farm. I kinda miss our house when we were kids. It's so close to the mountain that if you shout really loud, you can hear the echo. And it's also close to the lake...it's a great place to build a vacation house. The only issue with the place is transportation. Since it is so close to the mountain, transportation is a problem. And to get to the place, you have to ride a ship...not plane.

Need some sleep

Last night I went to bed early but was not able to fall asleep until 2 am. That bad...yup! I have been so used to sleeping late and almost dawn that it's annoying and stressing me out when I can't sleep, therefore making it more difficult to fall asleep.

So finally when I fell asleep after telling my husband to just keep talking to me, it usually help... I was able to sleep only to be awaken at 5am in the morning... My alarm was set to go off at 7am so I can get ready for my CPR training. After I was awaken, I was not able to go back to sleep. So all in all I only had 3 hours of sleep and at the end of the day I was so drained I can barely open my eyes.

I was thinking of maybe taking some sleeping pills but I don't really want to start since I might get dependent and I really hate taking any medicine. Really hate, unless it is needed.

If you are curious as to what had awaken my sleep, well, leave it to my darling husband to do the waking up (not the type of waking up you are thinking of). I almost kick him this morning for waking me up and when I told him that he woke me up, he said he can't remember anything or answering any of my question or talking to me. I was furious!

At the end of the day, lets just say that we have a lot of discussions done, and he still won't admit remembering what we have talked about. Although he did apologize for waking me up.

Now, why would somebody apologize if he can't remember a thing? Makes me think about it.

Productive Day

Today was indeed a fruitful day. Two reasons: I got my CPR certification today (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider)and my husband pass the Physical test for the job that he is applying for.

Now I just have to wait for my card and certification and start submitting my applications for Nursing program. Right now I am an alternative candidate from one school that I applied for...I guess my score wasn't that high to get in the first batch...lol. I can actually laugh about it now, I don't know why. Maybe because I am also looking forward to my job interview. Yup! I am actually wanting to go back to the workforce now. I have been bored that I have actually read 15 novels in the last 2 months that I have been out of school... just the summer( grin..). I can't help it. I just have to occupy myself with something or else I'll go crazy. I have been wanting to go for a vacation but we don't have enough money since there's 3 of us now and my husband is the only one working. So I started looking for job instead. I should have done so before but I guess I was still enjoying being a stay at home mom, but now that my daughter is getting to the age of starting school, I just don't know what to do at home.

And since I have been sleeping late as well... overdoing it, I think my body is giving up already. I have been having some muscle pain on my left leg and my left arm... its getting frequent and it's stressing me out. I feel like pretty soon I may need some cholesterol supplements.

I may have to follow the regimen of my husband now. Since he was applying for this new job, he has actually decided to stop drinking soda. Just stop and he lost 13lbs in 3 weeks! Just by eliminating the soda. So now he is ecstatic because he has more energy and he is slowly losing his gut... yey! If he continues with the weight loss, by Christmas he probably won't have any, since he is also doing a lot of sit ups. Hmmm... I wonder how is he going to look like.

I have a picture of him before he start this regimen and once he reach his target weight I am going to post a "before" and "after" photo here.

I hope it all goes well...I may have to stop drinking soda myself...

Custom Blind

The size of the window in our house measures a little bit different from the regular window. It's one of the reason why after removing the old blinds we haven't found one that will fit it. Just two issue, the blind is too big or it's too small.

So now the only solution is to order a custom blinds. I don't really have any problem with ordering one it's just that it gets a little pricey and our budget can't afford it yet.

I don't like the regular blind, the small one...rather I love the darker brown shade and bigger blinds. I looks nicer with big windows.

New things are learn everyday

I was browsing online tonight and I came across a portable oxygen concentrator. And I got curious as to what this oxygen concentrator does.

According to FDA's website it is a device that produces a high concentration of oxygen (85% to 95%) at clinically useful flow rates (up to 5 L/min) by physical separation of oxygen from ambient air. Oxygen concentrators are commonly used in home healthcare and occasionally in general anesthesia.

This is definitely something new for me. I guess since I am trying to get into the medical field I need to make myself more aware of such information and device. I have been on a novel marathon this summer vacation that I have never ever open my books to at least review some information at the same time know more stuff, but I can't seem to kick myself and do it. I wish it's that easy.

Do you have any tips that you can share on how to make learning more enjoyable on subjects that are not so agreeable. I'd love to know them, if you want to share.

Lampshade Dilemma

Now that the 4th of July weekend is finally over, its time to go back to reality. Now I have to make myself busy trying to finish all the projects that I want to do before the summer vacation is over.

One of the project that I have been wanting to finish is updating the lighting in our bedroom as well as the living area. Most of the time, specially if its just me and my daughter we usually just use the lampshade in the living area for its helps in setting the mood. It makes it more mellow and it helps my daughter to mellow down in time for bed. The lampshade works just fine, it serves the purpose. But, decorative wise it doesn't work for me.

I have been wanting to paint it in 2 shades, blue and white, but I can't decide what shades of blue. The lampshade is really old, its actually my husband lampshade and I have wanting to replace it since we got married, unfortunately we are still using it until now.

I also found a few designs of lampshade that might work for the contemporary and modern look that I am "trying" to achieve for our living room.

Home Made Card

Father's day is one of the few celebrations where my daughter gets really excited. The reason for it is because I told her that we are going to do something special for her dad. I thought this will really tickle her plus we get to do something that will keep her occupied.

My original plan was just to go to the store and look for a card and let her do the choosing. But since I have a few papers for digital scrapbooking I decided to just make our home made card.

We started with cutting letters from magazines, but after we finish the first card, I realized that using the papers for digital scrapbooking was much better. So, we start from scratch again.

And as it turn out it looks much better. We also had some letterings from the supplies(scrapbooking) which works great. I also put a photo of my daughter and my husband on the front page...photo taken using our old digital camera...not to bad but I wish I have one of those nice Canon camera that I can use. But, nevertheless it still turn out nice. My daughter had a great time doing some art projects. She even gets to put her signature drawing at the back. She did a drawing of her dad at the back. We also added a family cartoon picture inside... we got it from a magazine and it work out great because the kid on it is a girl. And then we made sort of a castle to frame the picture.

In the front, I asked my daughter what does she thinks of her dad. And so we came up with "special and thoughtful." And the last one, she came up on her own... "great". And at the bottom I added the wordings "live, learn - laugh, love". Is a simple card, but like they said "it's the thought that counts." Next time will make it more appealing, just have to take more photos and get a new camera.

Father's Day Celebration

It's a tad late for my post about our father's day celebration, but better than never. I am just enjoying all this vacation without having to think about school and other stuff plus I been reading books non stop that I rarely had time to blog.

Anyways, we went to Adventure Landing for father's day celebration to treat my husband for some mini golf and batting. He used to play baseball when he was younger and so I thought he will love to do something similar. And guess what? He did!

Looking Back

I was just chatting with one of my high school friend and we got into talking about having kids and how difficult it was with our first child. However, for her second one she said that it was the total opposite. Now I am thinking, would it be totally different the second time around.

It's just that the whole pregnancy thing wasn't such a pleasant experience that thinking about having another child is scaring me. There are a few instances during the pregnancy that was great but I just can't go through the whole nine months taking medicine so I can do my normal days.

I hate taking medicines, any kind. I even have issues with taking my prenatal vitamins. And I'm afraid that there will be some problems since I haven't been taking those vitamins. I just hope that my daughter doesn't suffer that consequence.
